Clean Technology Investment Program

What is it?
The $1 billion Clean Technology Investment Program provides grant funding to manufacturers for investments in energy efficient capital equipment and low pollution technologies, processes and products. Grant funding will be provided over a 7 year period from 2011/12 to 2017/18.

Why should you take advantage of the Program?
With rising energy costs and a price on carbon from 1 July 2012 the Program provides an important opportunity for the manufacturing sector to access assistance to reduce operating costs and maintain competiveness.

What grant funding is available?
The minimum grant amount is $25,000. There is no maximum. Companies are required to make a co-contribution (varies depending on company turnover and grant amount)

What types of projects are eligible?

Energy efficiency or emissions reduction opportunities Example
Replacing existing manufacturing plant, equipment or processes Upgrading to a high efficient motor or lighting or replacing boiler with a more efficient one
Modifying manufacturing plant, equipment or processes Installing advanced process control systems
Changing energy sources Installing solar panels, wind turbines and gas fired co-generation systems
Establishing new facilities or modifying existing facilities to enable production of low emissions products Installing new equipment to establish a production line for energy efficiency washing machines

 Am I eligible?

  • Manufacturers with annual energy use of:
    > 300MWH electricity or
    > 5 terajoules gas or
Mix of fuels &/or electricity that results in CO2e emissions of > 0.27 kilotonnes or
    Liable for carbon price
  • Manufacturers within the following ANZSIC classes: 1220 – 2110, 2122 – 2139, 2142 – 2149 and 2221 - 2599.
