Celebrating 150 years

Ai Group has been supporting Australian industry for 150 years. We can trace our roots back to 1873 when the Iron Trades Employers' Association was formed in December of that year after a general strike in the iron trades over the 8-hour day. In 1901 the Association registered under the New South Wales Industrial Arbitration Act and in 1921 changed its name to the Metals Trades Employers' Association (MTEA). In April 1970 it merged with the Metal Industries Association (Victoria) to form a national group - the Metal Trades Industry Association of Australia. In July 1998, MTIA merged with the Australian Chamber of Manufacturers to form The Australian Industry Group.

What our members are saying

Just a short note to congratulate Ai Group on its work throughout the pandemic. Ai Group advocacy is a very important feature of ensuring a more balanced debate between essential public health considerations and the wider societal and economic impacts of the nation’s response to the pandemic.
